As you delve into the rich Korean culture, you might come across the intriguing tradition known as "국수 먹는 날," which translates to the day of eating noodles, specifically on wedding days.

국수, or noodles, is a dish with the longest strands among various Korean foods. Eating 국수 on the wedding day expresses the hope for the love between the bride and groom to last a lifetime.

"국수 먹으러 간다" (going to eat noodles) was a common expression when attending a wedding, while asking about marriage plans involved the playful inquiry, "언제 국수 먹여 줄 거냐" (When will you treat us to noodles?).

Korea boasts a variety of noodles, but especially "잔치 국수" refers to noodles served on festive occasions. 잔치 means festival and party. 잔치 국수 was a staple at village festivities, especially during weddings.

Originally considered a luxury food in ancient Korea, noodles were reserved for special occasions such as ancestral rites and celebrations. However, as time progressed into the Joseon era, noodles became a popular and accessible dish for people of all walks of life.

Although there was a period when 갈비탕 became more popular than 잔치 국수 at weddings, there is a renewed interest in reviving the tradition of serving 잔치 국수 to uphold its original significance of wishing for a long and prosperous marriage.
