Directly translated, "손이 놀다" means "the hands play." However, its true essence lies in conveying a sense of leisure, idleness, or having too much free time on one's hands. Imagine the leisurely movement of your hands when you're not occupied with tasks or responsibilities – that's the essence of "손이 놀다."

🔍 Cultural Insight:

Please, note that although we used the word “rest” in the translation, this phrase doesn’t refer to the positive side of it. It refers mostly to the state when you’re not doing anything, and thus may be seen as being lazy.
I feel like this meaning shows one of the sides of Korean culture, where working hard (열심히) is considered one of the most important things.

콩쥐 got dressed and headed to the feast. As she tried to cross the stream, a loud voice came from behind. "Everyone, make way. The nobleman is approaching!" Startled, 콩쥐 hurriedly dropped one flower shoe into the stream. 'What should I do? I need to go quickly before the feast ends...'

In the end, 콩쥐 left in a hurry, wearing only one flower shoe. Just then, the nobleman who had been following saw the flower shoe floating away. "This seems to be an exquisite flower shoe. Whose could it be?"

A little later, the nobleman arrived at the feast, holding the flower shoe in one hand. Many people had gathered at the feast. The nobleman immediately sought the owner of the flower shoe. "If there is anyone who owns this flower shoe, please come forward!"

The village maidens, each insisting that the flower shoe belonged to them, eagerly stepped forward. However, no one's foot fit into the shoe. 팥쥐, insisting forcefully that the shoe was hers, struggled to wear it but clumsily fell backward.

Now, the only person left in the village was 콩쥐. Summoning courage, she approached the nobleman. When 콩쥐 put on the flower shoe, it fit perfectly. Finally, 콩쥐 took out the remaining flower shoe from her pocket. "I have finally found the owner of the flower shoes."

The stepmother and 팥쥐 were left clueless and regretful. The nobleman welcomed kind 콩쥐 as his wife. As for the wicked stepmother and 팥쥐, they faced the consequences. However, kind 콩쥐 forgave them. Remorseful, the stepmother and 팥쥐 left, never to return. Since then, 콩쥐 and the nobleman lived happily ever after.
